Mike Benevides enters Riders head coach fray: report

Former CFL bench boss Mike Benevides has entered the Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach search according to Rod Pedersen.

Sources tell me Benevides and the Roughriders have talked, and that it could be a good fit, Pedersen writes.

Benevides had been the Edmonton Eskimos assistant head coach and defensive co-ordinator since Jason Maas took over as Eskimos head coach in 2016 until the Esks let the 50-year-old go due to the football operations cap after the 2018 season.

Prior to joining the Eskimos, Benevides spent three seasons as head coach of the B.C. Lions (2012-14), compiling a 33-21 win-loss record. The Toronto native has a mostly defensive background with time spent as a special teams coordinator as well. Benevides has three Grey Cup rings as a coach.
