Canadian offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif will play in the AFC Championship game on Sunday.
The Kansas City Chiefs transferred Duvernay-Tardif from injured to active.
Duvernay-Tardif suffered a broken fibula with torn ankle ligaments on October 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chiefs placed him on injured reserve at the time.
The 27-year-old doctor has healed and is ready to return to the playing field.
Through five NFL seasons, Duvernay-Tardif has started 43 of 46 career games. Duvernay-Tardif will help protect NFL MVP favourite Patrick Mahomes leading a high-scoring Chiefs offence.
Duvernay-Tardif was selected in the sixth round, 200th overall by Kansas City in the 2014 NFL draft out of McGill University, where as a senior he won the J.P. Metras Trophy as the Most Outstanding Lineman in Canadian university football. The Calgary Stampeders drafted Duvernay-Tardif in the third round, 19th overall of the 2014 CFL draft, but he’ll never play for the Stamps after signing a five-year contract with the Chiefs worth $40-plus million dollars and $20 million guaranteed in February 2017.
The Chiefs finished the season 12-4, claiming the No. 1 seed in the AFC and host the New England Patriots for the chance to advance to the Super Bowl.
