Former Eskimos defender McCoil signs with Chargers, could suit up for playoffs

Former Edmonton Eskimos defender Dexter McCoil has been signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice roster.

McCoil had been an NFL free agent since October 9 when the San Francisco 49ers released him from their practice roster.

MThe 49ers claimed McCoil off waivers on October 9. He played in four games making eight tackles for the 49ers in 2017.

The 27-year-old was originally signed by the Chargers in January 2016. He played 18 games recording 26 tackles, defended five passes and intercepted another.

McCoil played two seasons for Edmonton. He made 144 tackles, intercepted nine passes and six sacks. After winning the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie award in 2014, McCoil helped the Eskimos win the Grey Cup in 2015.
