Kansas City Chiefs Canadian OL Laurent Duvernay-Tardif designated for return from injured list

Canadian offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif has been designated for return from the Kansas City Chiefs injured list.

Duvernay-Tardif suffered a broken fibula with torn ankle ligaments on October 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Chiefs placed him on injured reserve at the time.

The 27-year-old doctor has 21 days to either return to the Kansas City active roster or remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Through five NFL seasons, Duvernay-Tardif has started 43 of 46 career games. The Chiefs are 11-4 and sit first in the AFC with NFL MVP favourite Patrick Mahomes leading a high-scoring offence.

Duvernay-Tardif was selected in the sixth round, 200th overall by Kansas City in the 2014 NFL draft out of McGill University, where as a senior he won the J.P. Metras Trophy as the Most Outstanding Lineman in Canadian university football. The Calgary Stampeders drafted Duvernay-Tardif in the third round, 19th overall of the 2014 CFL draft, but he’ll never play for the Stamps after signing a five-year contract with the Chiefs worth $40-plus million dollars and $20 million guaranteed in February 2017.

If Duvernay-Tardif can return before the end of the season it could be a boost to the Chiefs offensive line as Kansas City tries to win a Super Bowl.
