Bombers’ Jackson Jeffcoat receives maximum fine but no suspension for hit on Riders QB Brandon Bridge

The CFL has levied the maximum fine on Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive lineman Jackson Jeffcoat for his hit to the head on Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Brandon Bridge in last Sunday’s West semifinal.

The maximum fine under the league’s collective bargaining agreement is half a game cheque and players receive $3,400 for participation in a semifinal game (making the fine $1,700.) He was not suspended.

Bridge was forced to leave the game after taking a helmet-to-helmet blow from Jeffcoat and back up David Watford took over for the game’s final play, a desperation heave that was intercepted by Winnipeg sealing a 23-18 victory.

Jeffcoat was not flagged on the play, a call the league quickly acknowledged it missed. The CFL also announced Thursday that it will add an extra official to the field for the rest of the playoffs to watch for any blows delivered to the head or neck of a quarterback.
