GM Kavis Reed, coach Mike Sherman to return to Alouettes next season

General manager Kavis Reed and head coach Mike Sherman will return to the Montreal Alouettes next season, despite a 5-13 record in 2018.

There had been some speculation that the team might part ways with Reed, Sherman or both, particularly after 3DownNation’s Justin Dunk reported that the Alouettes were quietly talking to potential replacements. 

Montreal has compiled an 8-28 record during the two seasons under Reed, the worst record in the league over that span. Montreal has missed the playoffs four straight years, setting a dubious franchise-worst mark.

Last December, Reed hired head coach Mike Sherman who signed a two-year contract plus a team option.

Reed was also the architect of the blockbuster trade that brought quarterback Johnny Manziel to Montreal, though it came with a hefty price tag: first round picks in 2020 and 2012 along with established CFLers, receiver Chris Williams and ratio-breaking defensive end Jamaal Westerman. The Als will have to make a decision on Manziel by March 1 when he’s due to be paid a $75,000 bonus.
