CFL investigating post-game altercation between Ticats and Lions

The league office is looking into an altercation that happened outside Tim Hortons Field after last week’s matchup between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and B.C. Lions.

Players from both teams were reportedly involved in the incident near Gate 3, where the visitors usually exit the stadium to board buses waiting on Melrose Avenue.

On Saturday, though, another bus — this one bound for a fundraiser hosted by Tiger-Cats linebacker Simoni Lawrence — was also idling in the area. That means Hamilton players heading to that event would have been nearby as well.

A report on 3DownNation described what happened as a verbal skirmish that turned physical.

CFL spokesperson Lucas Barrett said the league is aware of the incident and is investigating. The Tiger-Cats, meanwhile, said the team contacted security staff at the stadium and were told it was nothing — “a non-issue” — and pursued it no further.

The Lions told The Spectator in an email they have no comment on anything regarding their visit to Hamilton other than to say the Tiger-Cats are “first-class hosts, they played a very good game and deserve full marks for the win.”

Neither the league nor the teams spoke to which players were involved or what caused the incident. It is also unclear what, if any, connection exists between the spat and a video posted on Twitter by the Lions the day before the 40-10 Hamilton win that showed fullback David Mackie dancing on the Tiger-Cats logo at centre field.
