Calgary Stampeders

So, the Stamps can’t actually clinch playoff spot this week

The CFL admitted Wednesday that it erred earlier in the week when it said the Calgary Stampeders could clinch a playoff spot if the Saskatchewan Roughriders beat the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field on Saturday. Turns out, that’s not true. From the league:

The issue, as far as I can tell, is that while a Toronto loss would seem to guarantee Calgary at least a crossover spot, the Stamps can still – theoretically – be caught by both B.C. and Winnipeg in the West Division in the unlikely event those teams win out while Calgary goes 0-6 down the stretch. The season series between Calgary and B.C. and Calgary and Winnipeg has also yet to be decided.

Given that the Stamps are 10-2, lead the CFL with 20 points and have a three-game cushion on both Edmonton and Saskatchewan for first place in the West, Calgary’s post-season chances look pretty good (Sports Club Stats has their odds at 100 per cent) even if it can’t quite happen this weekend.

Plus, it’s extremely unlikely Stamps fans were ever going to cheer for the Riders anyway.
