Alouettes DC Rich Stubler breaks five ribs, misses zero practices

Montreal Alouettes defensive co-ordinator Rich Stubler will be playing hurt Friday night.

Stubler was riding his bike in the city earlier in the week when he crashed into an open car door. He suffered five broken ribs and a broken hand.

“He’s a tough guy, he hasn’t missed a day of work,” said Als’ head coach Mike Sherman. “He’s handling things quite well.”

Stubler, a longtime CFL coach who was hired by the Als this season, rode a motorized scooter at Thursday’s walkthrough.

Sherman said Stubler likely won’t be on the sideline for Friday’s game against the visiting B.C. Lions.

“I think Stubler can do about anything, it amazes me what he’s doing right now. But he and I are going to have a little talk about possibly being up in the press box,” Sherman said. “I’d be concerned someone might run into him on the sideline. So I might have to make that call for him.”
