Ticats sign 2012 CFL MOP Chad Owens

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed receiver and returner Chad Owens.

He was at practice briefly on Tuesday.

Owens played three games catching 17 balls for 225 yards and one touchdown in 2017 for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He attended training camp with the Riders in 2018, but was among the final cuts before the regular season.

The 36-year-old played one season in Hamilton, 2016, recording 58 catches for 808 yards and five touchdowns.

Owens has two Grey Cup championships on his resume. He played five seasons with the Toronto Argos. His career numbers are Hall-of-Fame worthy, including a 2012 season that saw him set a league record for all-purpose yards and earn the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award.

Over nine CFL seasons, Owens has 521 receptions for 6,217 yards and 27 touchdowns. The three-time CFL all-star has 10 career return touchdowns.

Season-ending injuries to American pass catchers Chris Williams and Jalen Saunders meant the Ticats needed reinforcements at the receiver position including fellow veteran Marquay McDaniel.
