Former Stamp and Saskie native Brett Jones traded from Giants to Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings have acquired former Calgary Stampeder offensive lineman Brett Jones in a trade with the New York Giants for a 2019 draft pick.

The Vikings announced the deal, contingent on Jones passing a physical exam, on Sunday.

The 6-foot-2, 312-pound Jones started 13 games for the Giants last year. His first career NFL start actually came at left guard in 2016. The Vikings have lost starting left guard Nick Easton, likely for the season, to a neck injury.

Jones originally signed with the Giants in 2015 after winning the Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Lineman awards in successive CFL campaigns (2013 and 2014).

Jones, who is originally from Weyburn, Saskatchewan, fell behind Jon Halapio on the depth chart in training camp.
