Williams had to be carried to the locker room. He was reacquired in the blockbuster trade that sent quarterback Johnny Manziel to the Montreal Alouettes in July.
Head coach June Jones was already pondering possible replacement options for Williams after the game, including Duron Carter.
“It’s funny you bring that up, I was just thinking that in the locker room,” Jones said.
Carter was released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders on August 11 and the Ticats were one of four interested teams initially after he was let go. The 27-year-old visited and met with the Toronto Argonauts over the past week.
Through 65 career CFL games, Carter has 266 receptions for 4,031 yards and 26 touchdowns, averaging 980 receiving yards per season. He was a CFL all-star in 2017 with career highs in receiving yards (1,043) and touchdowns (8).
