Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea says starting quarterback Matt Nichols is expected to miss four-to-six weeks with a knee injury.
Nichols was injured on Wednesday, going down as he stepped back to throw a pass late in practice, falling to the turf without being touched by a teammate. He lifted himself to one knee, tossed his helmet and rested for a few moments. With his arms around a trainer on either side of him, he then walked slowly off the field with a bit of a limp.
There had been plenty of speculation regarding the severity of the injury so a four-to-six week recovery time likely qualifies as good news for Bomber fans. O’Shea said that Nichols will start the season on the six-game injured list but players can be removed from that list at any time.

O’Shea said that Bombers GM Kyle Walters has been fielding plenty of calls about the team’s quarterbacking situation but that a deal wasn’t necessarily imminent.
“We’re pretty happy with what we have,” O’Shea said.
