Duron Carter due in court a day before the Riders home opener

Saskatchewan Roughriders receiver Duron Carter is due in a Saskatoon courtroom to face a marijuana possession charge one day before the Riders’ home opener.

Carter’s case was adjourned for a second time on Thursday with the next scheduled date set for June 14. Saskatchewan will play the Toronto Argonauts the following day at Mosiac Stadium.

Carter was charged on Feb. 1 after security officers at the Saskatoon airport found marijuana in Carter’s bag following a search. Carter was also found with marijuana – pots cookies – at the Winnipeg airport last November.

It’s been reported that Carter is unlikely to face supplementary discipline from either the CFL or the Riders and CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie has said the CFL would have to re-examine its approach to marijuana in the wake of legalization legislation set to pass this summer.
