Stamps sign former Bombers DB and returner Troy Stoudermire

Calgary has signed defensive back and returner Troy Stoudermire.

The 27-year-old was last in the CFL with Edmonton in 2016. He played 21 games in two seasons with Winnipeg 2014 and 2015 plus four games as an Eskimo.

“Troy has displayed great athleticism during his time in the CFL and has shown the ability to be a playmaker,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel in a statement.

Stoudermire has 122 punt returns for 1,329 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 83 kickoff returns for 1,794 yards, adding three missed field goal returns for 84 yards and nine receptions for 46 yards. He has three tackles and one career interception on defence.

He signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent in 2013, but was released during training camp. Stoudermire spent time on the Riders practice roster that same year, although Saskatchewan cut him in training camp in 2014. That’s when Winnipeg picked him up. Minnesota gave Stoudermire a chance in 2016, however, he didn’t make it out of training camp with the Vikings.
