Nik Lewis signals possible end to Hall of Fame career

Nik Lewis has all but signalled the end of his CFL career.

“I pretty much know this is it. It’s been a hell of a ride, huh?” Lewis said to Herb Zurkowsky of the Montreal Gazette after Montreal’s loss to Saskatchewan. “I wanted to come in today and put everything I had out there. This is where it started. Was it today they blew up the stadium? Blew up all my memories?”

“I’m not stepping away because I think I can’t do it anymore,” said Lewis. “If a new head coach comes in and says he really wants me to play, I have to take that into consideration. But I doubt that’s going to happen.”

According to Zurkowsky Lewis isn’t expected to play against the Tiger-Cats in Week 20 as the Alouettes take a look at younger players.

If Lewis is headed for the exit, at least as a player — he’d be delighted to return to the Als in 2018 as an assistant coach, Zurkowsky reports.

The 35-year-old has made 1,051 receptions for 1,3778 yards and 71 touchdowns in his illustrious Hall of Fame career.
