Redblacks’ Jerrell Gavins carted off practice field

Ottawa defensive back Jerell Gavins was taken off the turf via cart Tuesday on his birthday (29) of all days.

One of the original Redblacks has been a mainstay on defence and made 41 tackles with one interception so far in 2017. In four seasons, Gavins has 167 defensive tackles, seven interceptions, three forced fumbles and one sack.

The loss of Gavins would be a big blow to the defence.
