Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Normally reliable Bombers kicker Justin Medlock in a slump

Justin Medlock missed from 39 yards out on the final play in Toronto on a three-pointer that could have won the game for Winnipeg.

“Hit it, looked up and it was wide. I just missed. I didn’t come through for the team. It’s definitely shocking. I felt good going into it…I just shot,” Medlock said after the Bombers lost 29-28 to the Argos in Week 18. “It was my fault.”

The usually reliable kicker was asked if wind played a factor in the wide attempt.

“It was my fault,” Medlock said.

Medlock entered the season as the most accurate field goal kicker in league history, but he has slumped of late and that’s allowed Rene Paredes to pass him in that category. He’s hit just seven of his last 13 three-point tries – 53.8 per cent – well below his career rate of 85.7.

“Just in a little drought, I guess, right now,” Medlock said. “Just got to make some kicks, just go one-for-one and keep it going.”
