Bombers’ Maurice Leggett suffers season-ending injury

Winnipeg linebacker Maurice Leggett won’t play another game for the Bombers this year.

Maurice Leggett suffered a torn achilles tendon in yesterday’s game and will miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

Leggett suffered the injury while bringing down an onside kick late in the team’s win over B.C. in Week 17.

Leggett was in the midst of another excellent season, recording 50 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, one of which he took back for a touchdown, and a 97-yard punt return touchdown in 13 games.

3DownNation’s John Hodge has an idea who might replace the all-star strong-side linebacker and further roster implications.

The Bombers will likely replace Leggett with one of two players: rookie field cornerback Brandon Alexander or reserve defensive back Kevin Fogg. In either case, expect the club to promote at least one defensive back from the practice roster. Robert Porter, who’s appeared in three contests, should be the first man up.
