B.C. Lions QB Travis Lulay suffers suspected knee injury

B.C. Lions quarterback Travis Lulay was injured on the opening drive against the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night.

Lulay was scrambling for a first down when he was tackled by Alouettes defensive end John Bowman. The veteran pivot stayed down on the turf for several minutes before leaving the field favouring his right leg. Initial reports indicate a likely knee injury.

Lulay was named the starter against Montreal after replacing starter Jonathon Jennings in the second half of a 31-24 loss to the Ottawa Redblacks on Aug. 26. He also guided B.C. to a 3-1 record during Jennings’ absence with a shoulder injury earlier this season.

The 33-year-old Lulay is in his ninth season with the Lions and has battled back from significant shoulder injuries to regain the form that saw him win the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player Award in 2011.
