Report: Trent Richardson reneges on Riders

Running back Trent Richardson was supposed to be on his way to Regina with the intent of finalizing an agreement with the Saskatchewan Roughriders – he even missed a flight – but being locked into a standard two-year CFL deal caused the 27-year-old to change his mind, Matt Zenitz from AL.com reports.

The former Alabama running back was planning on flying to Canada to finalize the deal, but has decided not to sign, Richardson told AL.com.

The reason, Richardson said, is because he would have had to sign a one-year contract with a team option for a second year, so he would have essentially been locked into playing two years in Canada if he did well.

The Riders added the 27-year-old runner to their negotiation list on July 28. The Pensacola, Florida native was last on an NFL roster in August 2016.
