Ticats trade John Chick to Eskimos

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have traded John Chick to the Edmonton Eskimos.

In exchange, they receive a second round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft while sending a fifth-round pick to Edmonton.

The 34-year-old Chick has started all eight games this season for the 0-8 Ticats and has played 116 games in his eight-year CFL career. He has 16 tackles and two sacks this season.

After signing with the club as a free agent in the winter of 2016, Chick started all 18 regular season games and the Eastern semifinal for the Tiger-Cats last season and was named a CFL all-star and Hamilton’s most outstanding defensive player in his first year with the team.  The native of Gillette, Wy., is a three-time CFL All-Star and helped the Roughriders win Grey Cup titles in 2007 and 2013. He was named the CFL’s most outstanding defensive player in 2009.

The Ticats signed Chick to contract extension through the 2018 CFL season in May.

The move is the first sign the Ticats have all but given up on making the post-season and have begun dumping salary in exchange for future assets.
