Alouettes DB Chris Ackie plays with torn tendon, undergoes surgery

Montreal defender Chris Ackie played an entire game with a torn tendon.

The 25-year-old thought he just had a strain in his arm on the second play of the Alouettes Week 6 loss to Winnipeg. Turns out Ackie’s triceps tendon snapped and rolled up about six inches into his arm.

The tendon was repaired on Thursday in Montreal and the setback is season-ending. In fact, he woke up from surgery to see the email about being fined for his hit on Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols on Winnipeg’s game-winning touchdown drive.

Ackie was selected by Montreal in the first round, fourth overall in 2015. He’s started six games this year and played in 39 total games for the Als registering 28 tackles, 21 special teams tackles, three forced fumbles and one sack.

Ackie is scheduled to become a free agent next February 2018.
