Riders kicker Tyler Crapigna added to six-game injured list

Saskatchewan kicker Tyler Crapigna has been put on the six-game injured list.

The 24-year-old suffered a lower body injury against Toronto. However, it’s unlikely he’ll need the full half dozen weeks to heal.

Crapigna, a fifth round selection in 2014, has been having a strong season, making 13-of-15 three point attempts while hitting all 13 convert tries.

He was originally acquired by the Roughriders at the trade deadline in October 2015 in exchange for Canadian running back Jerome Messam. Since then Crapigna has played in 24 games, knocking through 53-of-61 field goals (86.9 per cent) with a long of 53 yards and 40-of-44 extra points.

Second-year Canuck kicker Quinn Van Gylswyk will take Crapigna’s place. He played in one game and connected on 1-of-3 field goals – a 54-yarder – on August 13 against Calgary last season as a rookie. Van Gylswyk was selected in the third round, 26th overall by Saskatchewan in the 2016 CFL draft.
