Riders put defensive lineman on kickoff coverage, carnage ensues

Makana Henry leaves a dent.

The defensive lineman took a rep on kickoff coverage during the Saskatchewan Roughriders sister-kisser of a pre-season game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday, hauling his 6-foot-1, 275-pound frame down the field at (relatively) high speed then wrecking a significantly smaller Bomber blocker.

Rider teammate Chad Owens, sitting out because of injury, captured the the collision from the sideline and posted it to Instagram.

The best part of this video – other than the sight and sound of the contact, I mean, Jesus Christ – is that his teammates know it’s coming, then celebrate as if Henry had just scored a fat guy touchdown. Sounds like his story might be pretty good, too: the Burlington native had last played football as a junior in 2009 – he’s 30!!! –  before signing with the Riders as a free agent last August. He played in six regular season games, with five starts in 2016.

The number of the Blue Bomber who gets squished isn’t visible – and that’s probably for the best.
