Top CFL prospect Geoff Gray draws eight NFL teams to pro day

Eight NFL teams and two CFL squads are in attendance at the pro day for Manitoba Bisons offensive lineman Geoff Gray on Thursday.

The Winnipeg native is performing strength, speed and agility drills for scouts from the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, Seattle Seahawks, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs and Green Bay Packers of the NFL as well as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL.

Gray was ranked fifth in the latest edition of the CFL Scouting Bureau but passed on last weekend’s CFL combine in Regina to continue with his pro day preparation. He’s hoping to follow in the footsteps of current Kansas City offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, who attracted nine NFL teams to his pro day in 2014 and was selected in the sixth round by the Chiefs.

The NFL draft takes place April 27 to 29 while the CFL version goes May 7.

Gray weighed in at 315 pounds and measured just over 6-foot-5 with 79 5/8 inch wing span, 34-inch arm length and 9 3/8 inch hand size.

His vertical was 31 inches, which would have tied him for first at the CFL combine with Saskatchewan’s Evan Johnson and second at the NFL combine.

He followed that up with 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

After that he broad jumped nine feet, six inches.

Next a 5.28 40-yard time.

The Winnipeg native is known for his weightlifting background.

Gray was named the Canada West Outstanding Down Lineman of the Year, making him a finalist for the J.P. Metras trophy for the 2016 USports football season. Then he earned an invite to the prestigious East-West Shrine Game, the oldest American college football all-star showcase game.
