Roughriders add Saskatoon, Regina CJFL players to roster

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added three local Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) players to their roster for training camp, including Regina Thunder running back Peter Boersch, Saskatoon Hilltops running back Corbin Ebben, and Thunder receiver Benjamin Walz.

Boersch led the Prairie Football Conference (PFC) with 1,436 rushing yards in 2025, scoring five touchdowns and averaging 7.3 yards per carry. The five-foot-eleven, 205-pound native of Regina previously played at Archbishop M.C. O’Neill High School.

Ebben ran for 380 yards and five touchdowns with the Hilltops in 2025, though his best season came in 2024 when he recorded 1,188 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in eight games. The native of Vanscoy, Sask. played for the Delisle Rebels in high school.

Walz caught 27 passes for 303 yards and one touchdown over eight games in 2025, earning a PFC all-star selection. The native of Major, Sask. played for the Kerrobert Rebels in high school.

The Roughriders will also have University of Saskatchewan quarterback Jake Farrell in training camp as part of the CFL quarterback internship program.

The five-foot-eleven, 185-pound passer threw for 647 yards and eight touchdowns over three regular-season games in 2025, going 3-0 as a starter. The native of Saskatoon, Sask. led the Huskies to a Vanier Cup, which included a 25-24 win over the Regina Rams in the Hardy Cup.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders recently selected Michigan State defensive back Malcolm Bell with their first-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, adding a key piece to pair with Tevaughn Campbell. The team’s other major offseason additions include defensive lineman James Vaughters and returner James Letcher Jr.

All CFL training camps are scheduled to open on May 10. Saskatchewan will play its first preseason game against the Calgary Stampeders on Monday, May 18 and its first regular-season game against the B.C. Lions on Saturday, June 13.

In 2025, Saskatchewan finished first in the West Division standings with a 12-6 record. The team went on to defeat the Montreal Alouettes in the 112th Grey Cup in Winnipeg, marking the club’s first championship in 12 years.
