Argonauts agree to terms with Canadian defensive back Matt Black

Canadian safety and special teamer Matt Black has agreed to a one-year contract with the Toronto Argonauts.

The 31-year-old has played his entire nine-year career with Toronto after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2008 draft. He has played in 109 career games with 128 defensive tackles and 80 special teams tackles and three interceptions. He has 32 starts during his career, including 12 last season.

The Argonauts are clearly looking to bolster their Canadian depth at safety, where they started a national last season. With Jermaine Gabriel already under contract, the team also signed free agent Canadian defensive back Matt Webster to a two-year deal on Friday. He spent the last three seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who selected him in the fifth round (39th overall) in the 2014 CFL Draft. In 36 career CFL games, he has registered 32 defensive tackles and 21 special teams tackles. He saw his most productive CFL season come in 2015 when he registered 21 defensive tackles and nine special teams tackles in 17 games.
