Defensive back Johnny Sears Jr. agrees to terms with Argonauts

The Toronto Argonauts have agreed to terms with American defensive back Johnny Sears Jr. on a one-year deal, per sources.

The former Hamilton Tiger-Cat and Winnipeg Blue Bomber has battled injury problems in his career, playing in just three games last season and five in 2015. In his seven CFL seasons, Sears has appeared in 45 games making 153 tackles, 15 more on special teams and registered eight interceptions.

The 29-year-old can play multiple positions in the secondary and strong-side linebacker – a spot that was an issue for the Argos after the release of veteran Keon Raymond last season. If Sears can stay healthy he can play at a high level.
