Former CFL receiver Tiquan Underwood has been hired as the assistant wide receivers coach for the Houston Texans.

This marks the third NFL stop in three seasons for Underwood, all with the same title. He was with the New England Patriots in 2024 and spent last season coaching for the Dallas Cowboys.

Prior to returning to the NFL ranks, the native of New Brunswick, N.J., spent two seasons at the University of Pittsburgh as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator. He previously spent two years as the wide receivers coach at Rutgers University and a season as offensive quality control coach with the Miami Dolphins. He broke into coaching as the wide receivers coach for Lafayette College in 2018.

Underwood played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Montreal Alouettes from 2015 to 2017, catching 87 passes for 1,320 yards and six touchdowns over 32 regular-season CFL games.

The 39-year-old was originally a seventh-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2009 NFL Draft and spent six years down south as a member of the Jaguars, Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Carolina Panthers, making 63 receptions for 1,006 yards and six touchdowns over 45 games.

The Houston Texans went 12-5 last season, finishing second in the AFC South. They were eliminated in the Divisional Round of the playoffs by the Patriots. DeMeco Ryans is entering his fourth season as head coach, while former CFL player and coach Danny Barrett remains the assistant head coach.
