Ticats agree to terms with offensive lineman Xavier Fulton

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with offensive tackle Xavier Fulton, per CFL sources.

Fulton, who was set to become a free agent in February, was acquired last October along with Canadian defensive lineman Justin Capicciotti in exchange for national defensive tackle Linden Gaydosh, international receiver Tommy Streeter and fourth and seventh round selections in the 2017 CFL Draft. The 30-year-old Fulton started four regular season games for Hamilton as well as the East Semi-Final, all at left tackle.

The 30-year-old Fulton was originally a fifth round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 2009 NFL Draft. He had stints with Washington, Indianapolis and San Francisco before joining the Edmonton Eskimos in 2012. He was traded to the Riders for a fifth round pick and played five seasons in Saskatchewan, winning the 2013 Grey Cup.

By re-signing Fulton, the Ticats now have plenty of veteran American depth on the offensive line, where they have started two internationals for several seasons. In addition to Fulton, Hamilton also has Jake Olson (who missed last season with a torn patella), Jeremy Lewis and Brian Simmons under contract for next season. The team also has the option of playing four Canadians up front with either veteran Ryan Bomben or second-year man Brandon Revenberg sliding out to the right tackle spot.

The news was first reported by Murray McCormick of the Regina Leader Post.
