New York Giants fire Canadian vice-president of football operations Kevin Abrams

The New York Giants have parted ways with longtime football operations executive Kevin Abrams, according to multiple reports.

Abrams most recently served as the team’s senior vice-president of football operations and strategy, making him one of the highest-ranking Canadians in the NFL. He had been with the franchise for 27 years, lasting through four different general managers and winning a pair of Super Bowls.

A native of Toronto, Ont., Abrams completed his undergraduate degree at Western University and earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Ohio University. He went on to complete internships and graduate work in player personnel, recruiting, public relations and corporate relations with the Washington Football team, the Ohio Bobcats, the Buffalo Bills, and the London Monarchs of NFL Europe, before joining the NFL Management Council, where he helped to monitor the league-wide salary cap and analyzed all new player contracts with respect to the collective bargaining agreement.

He was hired by the Giants in July 1999 to fill the newly created salary cap analyst position under general manager Ernie Accorsi. He held that position for three seasons before being promoted to assistant general manager, a title which he held for 20 years. After briefly serving as interim general manager in 2017, Abrams added the title of vice president of football operations in 2018 and was made a senior VP in 2022.

Throughout his career, Abrams has worked with the college scouting and pro personnel departments, has been responsible for strategic planning related to football operations, compliance with the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, data and innovation, managed the salary cap and negotiated player contracts.

During his tenure as the Giants’ assistant GM, the Canadian earned a reputation for helping out his fellow countrymen, particularly those from U Sports schools. The team routinely invited a number of undrafted Canadian prospects to its rookie mini-camp under his leadership.

The Giants went 4-13 in 2025, finishing last in the NFC East and missing the playoffs. The team fired Canadian-born head coach Brian Daboll in November and has since hired John Harbaugh to replace him.
