Laurier QB Cal Wither headlines 2025 U Sports All-Canadian team

Wilfrid Laurier University’s star quarterback Cal Wither headlines a contingent of recognizable names selected to the U Sports All-Canadian football teams for the 2025 season.

Wither transferred from Ohio University in the offseason, replacing 2024 Hec Crighton Trophy winner, Taylor Elgersma, at quarterback for the Golden Hawks. The Waterloo, Ont., native led the nation with 26 passing touchdowns in his first season compared to only four interceptions, all while completing 72.7 percent of his passes for 2,472 yards.

Laurier had four players, including Wither, selected as first-team All-Canadians, with eight selections overall. Only the Laval Rouge et Or had more, with five first-teamers and nine overall. Notably, both teams were upset in their respective conference championship games at home. The two Vanier Cup teams, Saskatchewan and Montreal, had a fraction of the selections with four and three, respectively.

A total of eight 2025 CFL Draft picks were selected as first-team All-Canadians: Western offensive tackle Erik Andersen (13th overall, Saskatchewan), Saskatchewan linebacker Seth Hundeby (34th overall, Saskatchewan), McGill centre Domenico Piazza (40th overall, Edmonton), Montreal defensive end Gabriel Maisonneuve (44th overall, Montreal), Laurier receiver Ethan Jordan (51st overall, Ottawa) Manitoba guard Matt Stokman (56th overall, Calgary), Western defensive tackle Max Von Muehldorfer (61st overall, Calgary), and Saskatchewan receiver Daniel Wiebe (69th overall, Saskatchewan). Windsor cornerback Istvan Assibo-Dadzie (30th overall, Toronto) also made the second team.
