Wilfrid Laurier University head coach Michael Faulds has won his second consecutive Frank Tindall Trophy as the top coach in Canadian university football.
Faulds led his team to a perfect 8-0 record as the only unbeaten team in the country through the regular season. Despite losing the reigning Hec Crighton Trophy winner, quarterback Taylor Elgersma, to the NFL, the Golden Hawks’ offence did not skip a beat with Ohio transfer Callum Wither at the helm. Laurier averaged 509.4 yards per game to finish first in U Sports, while averaging the second-most points per game with 44.4.
Laurier advanced to the Yates Cup, where they were upset by the Queen’s Gaels. The team made it all the way to the Vanier Cup in 2024, losing to the Laval Rouge et Or.
Faulds has now won three Coach of the Year awards (2016, 2024, and 2025), becoming the first U Sports coach to do so with the same program. He beat out Saskatchewan’s Scott Flory, Laval’s Glen Constantin, and Saint Mary’s Steve Sumarah for the award this year. Faulds boasts a 72-42 overall record and signed a five-year extension with the Golden Hawks last offseason.
The Saskatchewan Huskies and Montreal Carabins meet in the Vanier Cup at Mosaic Stadium in Regina on Saturday, November 22. Kickoff is slated for 2:15 p.m. EST.
