Alex Singleton has cancerous tumour removed, expects to return soon for Denver Broncos

Denver Broncos linebacker Alex Singleton has undergone successful surgery following a recent testicular cancer diagnosis.

In late October, the Canadian-American defender was notified following a random drug screening that he had elevated levels of the hormone hcG in his system. After seeing a urologist, he was officially diagnosed with a testicular tumour, which he had removed on Friday, November 7 — one day after Denver’s victory over the Las Vegas Raiders.

The 31-year-old indicated that he is expecting to make a full recovery and return to the field “in the coming weeks.”

“I wrestled with sharing such personal information publicly, but the fact is, if it helps one person decide to pay closer attention to their body, then it is well worth it,” wrote Singleton in a statement. “I really want to just thank everyone for their support and emphasize the importance of early detection and regular screenings. I can’t wait to get back on the field.”

The native of Thousand Oaks, Calif. qualified for Canadian citizenship following his collegiate career at Montana State University and was a first-round pick of the Calgary Stampeders. He played three seasons with the team, recording 123 tackles over his final two years with the team to earn two All-CFL selections be named the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2017.

The six-foot-two, 240-pound defender is currently in the third and final year of the $18 million contract he signed with the Broncos in March 2023.

Singleton has earned over $14 million USD in the NFL since leaving the CFL, recording 722 total tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 14 pass knockdowns, five sacks, five fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, and three interceptions over 89 regular-season games with the Philadelphia Eagles and Broncos.
