Riders Marvin Golding suspended for drug policy violation

Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Marvin Golding has been suspended two games for violating the league’s drug policy.

Golding, 24, played in seven games this season, his first with the Riders.

Golding, who played his college ball at St. Mary’s, was one five players who tested positive for steroids at the 2015 CFL Combine. While the five were banned from playing university sports, they were not penalized by the CFL under the league’s previous drug program and it has no bearing on his current suspension

Golding issued a statement via the team.

I would like to apologize to my family, friends and most importantly the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization. They have given me an opportunity to play professional football and I disappointed them by taking a banned substance. I take full responsibility for my actions and accept my suspension delivered by the Canadian Football League. Lastly I would like to apologize to the young athletes that look up to us and have aspirations of playing professional sports. I promise to be a better role model moving forward.
