Drew Tate to start at QB for Stampeders

Drew Tate is set to start at quarterback for Calgary when the Stampeders play in Montreal against the Alouettes on Sunday, per CFL sources.

Tate took the majority of first-team offensive reps at practice this week. That means unanimous CFL MOP front-runner Bo Levi Mitchell should get the day off.

It will be Tate’s first start since the final week of the season last year (Nov. 7) when he went 18-of-22 for 231 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-7 victory against B.C.

For a while, the Stamps, who are playing their regular season finale on Sunday, have had first place in the West Division locked up. That said, Calgary (15-1-1) can tie the CFL record for most wins in a regular season (16) with a victory against Montreal.

Clearly, head coach Dave Dickenson has prioritized keeping his No. 1 pivot healthy by resting Mitchell.

Tate is in his eighth season with the Stampeders after spending two years on the Saskatchewan Roughriders practice roster.
