Winnipeg Blue Bombers release starting receiver Josh Johnson

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released starting receiver Josh Johnson.

The five-foot-eleven, 181-pound target made 10 starts for the team at slotback, catching 18 passes for 138 yards. He helped round out a receiving corps that has been limited due to injuries all season with Kenny Lawler, Dalton Schoen, Keric Wheatfall, and Drew Wolitarsky missing considerable time.

The 25-year-old native of Little Rock, Ark. played 46 collegiate games at the University of Tulsa where he made 165 catches for 2,118 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Winnipeg also confirmed the signings of quarterbacks Jake Dolegala and Bryan Scott, which 3DownNation reported last week. Both players have been added to the practice roster.

Dolegala was released by the B.C. Lions in mid-August following the team’s signing of Nathan Rourke. The six-foot-seven, 242-pound passer has thrown for 2,953 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions over 24 career CFL games as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Lions.

Scott dressed for 27 games over the past two seasons with the Toronto Argonauts, throwing for 79 yards and one touchdown. He was cut by the team after Chad Kelly was reinstated from his suspension.

The Blue Bombers (7-6) will visit the Edmonton Elks (5-8) on Saturday, Sept. 21 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
