Hamilton Tiger-Cats release Canadian DL Benoit Marion, sign one

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released Canadian defensive lineman Benoit Marion.

The 28-year-old signed with the team early this season following his release from the Toronto Argonauts. He has dressed for nine total games this year, making six special teams tackles but was recently demoted to the practice roster.

The six-foot-five, 250-pound defender made one defensive tackle, nine special teams tackles, two forced fumbles, and one sack over 16 games with Toronto in 2023, serving in a depth role.

The native of Montreal was a third-round pick of the Alouettes in the 2020 CFL Draft but was released before his rookie season got underway. He joined the Argonauts as a free agent shortly thereafter and has made seven defensive tackles, 17 special teams tackles, one sack, and two forced fumbles over 35 career CFL games.

The Ticats have also signed American receiver Jalon Calhoun to the practice roster.

The 23-year-old signed with the Detroit Lions after going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft but didn’t make the club’s final roster.

The five-foot-eleven, 195-pound native of Greensville, S.C. played 61 collegiate games at Duke University where he made 253 catches for 3,026 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also returned 26 kicks for 258 yards.
