Ottawa Redblacks can clinch first postseason berth since 2018 with win over Tiger-Cats

The Ottawa Redblacks can clinch a postseason berth for the first time since 2018 if they beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday.

The Redblacks have missed the playoffs in each of the past four years, going 14-54 over that timespan and finishing at the bottom of the East Division standings in each of those seasons. The club made the postseason in each of the four preceding years, qualifying for three Grey Cups and winning one in 2016.

Ottawa is coming off a 41-27 win over the Toronto Argonauts during which veteran defensive back Damon Webb returned two interceptions for touchdowns. The victory improved the team’s home record to 6-0-1.

The team ranks fifth league-wide in offensive points scored, tied for fourth in offensive net yards, seventh in offensive points allowed, and fifth in net offensive yards allowed. They have a turnover ratio of minus-one, which ranks fourth in the CFL.

The Montreal Alouettes have already clinched a playoff spot this season, though they can still finish as low as third in the East Division standings. No teams in the West Division have clinched a spot, nor can any do so this week.

The Redblacks (8-3-1) will visit Hamilton (3-9) on Saturday, Sept. 14 with kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. EDT.
