Official: Montreal Alouettes clinch CFL playoff berth

The Montreal Alouettes were on a bye this past week, yet the team was still able to punch its ticket to the CFL playoffs.

Last week, the league indicated that the Alouettes could clinch a spot in the postseason if the Ottawa Redblacks beat the B.C. Lions. Though the Lions ended up spanking the Redblacks, the league has since run the numbers and determined that it is mathematically impossible for a West Division team to earn the crossover ahead of Montreal, clinching a chance to repeat as Grey Cup champions.

The Alouettes are off to a 10-1 start and rank second league-wide in offensive points per game, third in net offence per game, first in offensive points allowed per game, and second in net offence allowed per game. Montreal also ranks third in the CFL in turnover differential at plus-seven.
