Dedrick Mills returns to Calgary Stampeders following suspension

Running back Dedrick Mills is back with the Calgary Stampeders and has been placed on their practice roster.

“I was happy to get him back,” said head coach and general manager Dave Dickenson. “He’s just going to work hard and get into his groove. We’ll see what happens there.”

The 27-year-old was suspended by the team near the start of August, which Dickenson said at the time was to allow him to “take care of some stuff.”

The five-foot-ten, 227-pound native of Waycross, Ga. took over as the team’s starting running back when Calgary moved on from Ka’Deem Carey in free agency. He rushed 78 times for 406 yards over six games to start the year and made 20 catches for 234 yards through the air.

In 27 games over three seasons, the Nebraska product has rushed for 1,667 yards and six touchdowns, while making 54 receptions for 462 yards.

The Calgary Stampeders (4-6) will host the Edmonton Elks (3-8) for the annual Labour Day Classic on Monday, Sept. 2 at 6:00 p.m. EDT.
