B.C. Lions release QB Jake Dolegala following addition of Nathan Rourke

The B.C. Lions have released quarterback Jake Dolegala. The move came one day after the team signed Nathan Rourke to a lucrative three-year deal following his release from the NFL.

Dolegala started B.C.’s recent loss to the Edmonton Elks, completing 14-of-23 pass attempts for 146 yards and rushing once for five yards. He also played briefly in the team’s shutout loss to Winnipeg the previous week, completing one-of-three pass attempts for 12 yards.

The six-foot-seven, 242-pound passer started nine games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2023, completing 64.8 percent of his pass attempts for 2,641 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He went 2-7 as a starter after supplanting Mason Fine following a season-ending leg injury to Trevor Harris.

The native of Hamburg, N.Y. signed his first CFL contract with Saskatchewan ahead of the 2022 season. He saw limited action as a CFL rookie, completing 45.7 percent of his pass attempts for 154 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Dolegala signed with the Cincinnati Bengals after going unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent the entire season on their active roster and played in two preseason games, completing 37-of-54 pass attempts for 347 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed three times for 12 yards.

The Lions signed Dolegala as a free agent in February 2024. The team also released rookie quarterback Brennan Armstrong, who joined their practice roster last week.

The B.C. Lions (5-4) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (3-6) on Sunday, Aug. 18 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.
