Redblacks’ QB Dru Brown exits Riders game with leg injury, seen in walking boot on Ottawa sideline

The Ottawa Redblacks will be without starting quarterback Dru Brown for the remainder of their Week 10 matchup with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and potentially longer after he suffered an injury to his right leg.

Brown was forced to exit the game early in the second quarter after he was rolled up on by defensive tackle Miles Brown, who came in low after being tripped up on an incomplete pass. Saskatchewan was assessed a roughing the passer penalty and Ottawa’s quarterback eventually left the field under his own power, but was ruled out for the remainder of the game. He later returned to the Ottawa sideline in a walking boot.

The 27-year-old was six-of-nine passing for 55 yards prior to the injury. He has started every game for the Redblacks since joining the team this offseason following a three-year backup stint with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, going 145-of-221 for 1,881 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions in the previous seven outings.

Backup Dustin Crum took over for Brown. He started 14 games for the Redblacks as a rookie in 2023, throwing for 3,109 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while rushing for 712 yards and nine majors.

Veteran Jeremiah Masoli is the team’s third-string quarterback, while former starter Tyrie Adams is also under contract as a healthy scratch.

The Redblacks (5-2) and Riders (5-3) are tied 3-3 at halftime.
