Meltdown in Montreal: Green done, Sutton 6-gamed, Carter facing suspension

Things have gone from bad to worse to downright apocalyptic for the Montreal Alouettes.

The team’s worst fears were confirmed after an MRI on his right knee showed that all-star receiver S.J. Green has suffered a complete tear of his medial collateral ligament, posterior cruciate ligament, anterior cruciate ligament as well as the meniscus in his right knee.

Needless to say, he’s done for the season.

The 31-year-old came down awkwardly while   attempting to make a catch midway through the second quarter of the Als’ 28-13 loss against Ottawa Thursday night. He left the game and did not return. The five-time CFL East all-star recorded a team-high 72 yards and a touchdown in Montreal’s week one victory over Winnipeg and led the Alouettes with 71 receptions for 1,036 yards in 2015

There was more bad news for the Alouettes: running back Tyrell Sutton suffered a sprained MCL in the same game that took down Green and has been placed on the six-game injured list. The 29-year-old Sutton led the CFL in rushing yards in 2015 with 1,059.

The league is also expected to announce supplementary discipline for wide receiver Duron Carter, who bumped Redblacks coach Rick Campbell after making a touchdown grab Thursday night and many around the league believe he’ll be suspended. The Alouettes have a bye this week and don’t play again until July 15 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
