The Canadian Football League will hold a supplemental draft on Saturday, June 29 for North Dakota State receiver Zach Mathis, 3DownNation has confirmed.

The six-foot-seven, 203-pound target recently acquired his Canadian citizenship via the right of jus sanguinis (parental birth). CFL teams will now get the chance to bid for his services by forfeiting an equivalent selection in the 2025 CFL Draft.

Mathis, who hails from Tampa, Fla., played 53 games over six seasons with the Bisons, winning three FCS National Championships during his tenure. He caught 95 passes for 1,392 yards and nine touchdowns over that span, earning him a rookie mini-camp tryout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month.

The CFL has already had one supplemental draft this season in which the Edmonton Elks forfeited an eighth-round pick to select Lackawanna College defensive end Antonio Alfano, who is now starting for the team. Edmonton will again have the highest waiver priority in this supplemental draft, which is based on last year’s standings.
