The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian offensive lineman Daniel Johnson.

The six-foot-five, 307-pound blocker recently attended rookie minicamp with the Indianapolis Colts but wasn’t offered a contract by the team. He was Saskatchewan’s fifth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft.

The native of London, Ont. spent the past two seasons at Purdue University where he made four starts over 10 games with the Boilermakers. This past season, he allowed eight quarterback hurries, one hit, and one sack.

Johnson previously played at Kent State University where he made six starts over 13 games with the team. His collegiate career was affected by knee injuries, including a torn ACL he suffered at Purdue in 2022.

The 24-year-old is the younger brother of former CFL receiver George Johnson, who played for the Montreal Alouettes during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

The Riders are scheduled to play their first preseason game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium on Monday, May 20.
