Montreal Alouettes sign sixth-round pick Michael Herzog

The Montreal Alouettes have signed Canadian running back Michael Herzog, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft. He recently attended rookie minicamp with the Detroit Lions but wasn’t offered a contract by the team.

The five-foot-eight, 201-pound ball-carrier ran for 2,273 yards and 29 touchdowns over 29 collegiate games at Hillsdale College, a Division II program located 160 kilometres southwest of Detroit in Hillsdale, Mich.

The native of Windsor, Ont. missed the 2021 season due to injury but was named first-team All-Conference in 2022 and a second-team All-American in 2023. He was also a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is awarded to the top player in Division II football.

Herzog was one of the top testers at the CFL Combine in Winnipeg, running a 4.55-second forty-yard dash, 6.94-second three-cone drill, 4.20-second shuttle, and leaping a 39-inch vertical and 120-inch broad jump. He participated in Detroit’s local pro day earlier this month before going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The graduate of Holy Names Catholic High School is the younger brother of free agent CFL defensive back Zach Herzog, who also attended Hillsdale College.
