The Toronto Argonauts selected Laval University receiver Kevin Mital fifth overall in the 2024 CFL Draft.

The Saint-Hubert, Que. native answered questions regarding his athleticism at the CFL Combine in Winnipeg, running a 4.58-second 40-yard dash and 6.94-second three-cone at six-foot-one and 229 pounds. He interviewed well, per 3DownNation sources, and didn’t shy away from discussing the guilty plea he entered for an assault charge last year.

During the 2022 U Sports season, Mital made 58 receptions for 751 yards and 12 touchdowns to win the Hec Crighton Trophy, becoming the first receiver to earn the award since Andy Fantuz in 2005. He made another 27 catches for 371 yards and five touchdowns over four playoff games to help Laval capture the Vanier Cup for the first time since 2018.

Mital provides a unique physical mismatch worthy of comparison to Lemar Durant or even Nik Lewis, with all the tools to thrive as a slotback. At his peak, you could argue he was the most dominant receiver in U Sports history and he’s ready to contribute Week 1.
