The Ottawa Redblacks will be without the services of running back Devonte Williams for the foreseeable future after he suffered a torn Achilles while training this off-season. He has since undergone surgery.

The five-foot-nine, 170-pound ball-carrier rushed for 1,002 yards and three touchdowns this past season, his first as a full-time starter in the CFL. He also caught 37 passes for 327 yards to be named the team’s candidate for Most Outstanding Player.

The 27-year-old native of Columbia, Md. participated in training camp with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2021 following a standout collegiate career at Southeastern Louisiana but was released. He signed with Ottawa the following season and split the starting role with William Powell, rushing for 454 yards and catching 27 passes for 327 yards.
